The house is situated on the south edge of the small village of Ponlat-Taillebourg and 4 km from the town of Montrejeau, which has a wonderful Monday market on an esplanade facing the Pyrenees.
A great variety of outdoor activities are possible, with the mountains less than half an hour away – cycling, walking, skiing, canoeing.
A summer music festival is held in the spectacular pilgrimage cathedral of St Bertrand de Comminges, with its renowned organ, and the smaller Romanesque church of St Just.
There are many other small musical events in the area, including the very lively international folk music festival in Montrejeau in August.
The Tour de France always comes quite close and in 2011 will be in the area between 14 and 16 July. However, if cycling vertically up mountains is not for you, a much more relaxed approach is possible by following the well-signposted cycle route along the banks of the river Garonne.
The nearest airports are Toulouse (1¼ hour/110 km), Pau (1 hour/100 km), Carcassonne (1¾ hours/190 km).
